![]() This client adds a Google Drive folder and if you put anything in it, it will sync it to your Google Drive, perfect right? Well not for me. It has both Ubuntu and Fedora packages and installs fairly easily. If you are willing to pay a few dollars, there is a decent option called overGrive. Once I had it configured, I wrote some scripts to two way sync. This allowed me to sync the way I wanted to, but can be painful to get working and I had issues setting it up with 2 factor authentication. My favorite CLI option is g sync, which basically gives you rsync functionality to your Google Drive. If you want to tinker here are a few examples. I can not really recommend these to anyone who will depend on them for daily workflow. Plus, command line utilities are not exactly what I was looking for. All of which I have found painful to get working. If you do a quick search you will find a few command line options for using Google Drive. I have also dabbled a bit with Ubuntu, but not enough to give a recommendation. I have played around with a few options and figured I would share my experiences here to hopefully help someone.Īll of my testing has been done of Fedora 23, 24 or 25 which is my distro of choice. Here we are on the cusp of 2017 and there is no official Drive support in sight. ![]() As you can see this comes at the cost of the normal right click context menu but it does what I need it to for now: start minimised on boot so I can seamlessly access my everyday files vault, without user intervention, which is contained in an Insync mounted Google Drive.Google has been promising a Linux support for Drive since it first debuted in 2012. This starts Cryptomator but with KDocker set to grab it and minimise the window, hiding it from my Gnome dock but keeping it running. The Cryptomator icon you see there is my current workaround, a startup command: kdocker -t -d 15 cryptomator. ![]() Personally I would prefer at least the option to have it minimised in the system tray - though the crux of this is a baked in solution to keep Cryptomator running without actually being displayed to the user as open or minimised in the Gnome dock all of the time, and from this it follows that start minimised and start hidden would be available. I know that Gnome made changes to the panel and tray in Gnome 3, and from recent experience that starting Cryptomator hidden works perfectly in the MATE desktop environment, but Gnome is the most widely used DE on linux, and other programs like Insync have a working tray icon without the Tray Icons extension, and without the issues I have mentioned.Įverything I have described about both Cryptomator and Insync are in this screenshot.Ĭrytpomator is amazing, and none of this will stop me using it, but it will bug me so please implement a solution.įrom what I've seen, flatpak apps for example can run in the background without system trays (deja-dup is a nice example). Crytomator is also permanently in the dock or launcher, and for some reason I have a tiny cryptomator icon top left of my destkop. It has been mentioned that although this extension enables the option to hide window when starting cryptomator it creates a black icon in the panel, but that is not the only issue. I already have the extension KStatusNotifierItem/AppIndicator Support installed but after reading about Tray Icons in that ticket I installed it also. There is an existing ticket #1103 which has been closed but the issue has not been fixed.
